FAQs
What is osteopathy?
In Australia, osteopaths are government registered allied health practitioners who undertake a 5 year university program in anatomy, pathology, physiology, general healthcare diagnosis and osteopathic techniques.
Osteopaths focus on the neuro- musculoskeletal system, which consists of muscles, bones, nerves and all tissues that support the body and control its movements. We provide assessment of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, along with manual therapy, exercise prescription, movement advice, pain education and ergonomic assessments.

Is osteopathy covered by Medicare?
Yes. A Medicare rebate for osteopathy can be accessed under the Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly known as an EPC Program or the Enhanced Primary Care Program).
Almost all health insurers provide rebates for osteopathy. Osteopathy rebates are available under extras cover.
Please note that your osteopath will commonly charge a gap fee (i.e. the difference between the rebate the health insurer offers you and the total amount of the service).
If unsure whether you are covered for osteopathy, simply check with your health care provider.
